For the next eight weeks, I’ll be training for the tour in north San Diego county, where I grew up. Here’s a goofy little video I made last week while rebuilding the bike on my sister’s farm (I had to take it apart to ship it from DC):

While I was raised in California, I haven’t lived here since I left for college, so it’s been fun to re-explore my old stomping grounds by bicycle. Yesterday, I mounted my phone to the front handlebars and played around with a GPS-enabled app called Cyclemeter, which provides detailed breakdowns of distance, pace, and elevation gain for each ride. Between the readouts from the app and the intense burning sensation in my quads, I have summised that it is REALLY hilly out here.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to vote for me and the Cycle for Security tour - I’m currently in 4th place out of 32 for a $5,000 grant – and ask your friends and family to do the same. There are only six days left to vote!
